ACT Bioenergy

Clean, Green Heating Solutions

Products

Advanced Climate Technologies manufactures wood pellet and wood chip boilers sized for commercial, institutional multi-family residential buildings. The boilers range in size from 0.5 to 3.5 Million Btus for buildings sized 5,000-100,000 ft².

ACT Bioenergy Boilers have been specifically designed to optimize customer convenience and ease-of-use to compliment or completely replace conventional fossil fuel boilers systems in buildings.

Features of the
ACT Bioenergy Boiler™:

The boiler technology is based on an innovative European design which has been developed and tested over the past 12 years and provides superior efficiency and lower emissions compared with conventional wood boilers available in North America.

Notes: ACT emission data from independent European test lab results. Other boiler emission results from US EPA – AP42 standard emission data.  Dry wood is <30% moisture content and wet wood is >30% moisture. http://www.epa.gov/ttn/chief/ap42/ch01/index.html

Gasification Process

The superior emission results from the ACT Bioenergy Boiler are due to the two stage gasification process which ensures clean and complete burning of the fuel.

In the first stage, fuel fed from below and up through the center of the burner plate where the fuel is heated to about 750ºF (400ºC) to release all the volatile gases contained in the fuel.

In the second stage of the process, air is injected tangentially from above the burn plate and complete combustion of the volatile gases occurs at temperatures up to 2000ºF (1100ºC). The hot exhaust gases are then sent through a heat exchanger to transfer the heat to the boiler water. The large surface area of the heat exchanger and superior insulation of the unit ensures maximum efficiency of heat transfer.

Innovative system design and controls ensure complete combustion of the fuel and particulate emissions are 20 times lower compared with conventional large wood boilers and are comparable with the emissions from conventional fossil-fuel boilers.

Automated Operation

A hot air blower is used to automatically ignite the fuel.

The operating status of the boiler is constantly monitored and automatically adjusted based on the conditions in the combustion chamber and the heat demands of the building.

Ash is automatically scraped from the boiler and heat exchanger tubes to maintain optimal heat transfer conditions. The ash is moved by augers out of the boiler to a collection bin. Typically the ash collection bin must be emptied every 3-6 weeks.

Safety

The boiler operation can be remotely monitored and controlled through computer modem and the system has multiple safety interlocks which will automatically shut down the system if unsafe operating conditions occur.

Quality Assurance

Our facility and our welders are certified by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

The boiler designs have been proven to be extremely durable, low maintenance and highly reliable with over 200 installations in Europe.
